The benefits of forest bathing

"We all know how good being in nature can make us feel. We have known it for centuries. The sounds of the forest, the scent of the trees, the sunlight playing through the leaves, the fresh, clean air — these things give us a sense of comfort. They ease our stress and worry, help us to relax and to think more clearly. Being in nature can restore our mood, give us back our energy and vitality, refresh and rejuvenate us."

Getting outside and walking in the forests is one of our favourite things to do here at De Tout Coeur Limousin - to immerse yourself and your senses in nature. To notice the sights, sounds, smells and 'feel' of the forest. From the deer and fox calls echoing through the hills, or the sight of a hare bounding through the woods. The smell of the forest ever changing, depending on the weather and the seasons. Forest bathing is different from just walking outside, it's an opportunity to be mindful and notice what is going on around us. A gentle, and accessible well being practice.

According to shinrin-yoku forest meditation here are some of the benefits:

The scientifically-proven benefits of Shinrin-yoku include:
  • Boosted immune system functioning, with an increase in the count of the body's Natural Killer (NK) cells.
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Reduced stress
  • Improved mood
  • Increased ability to focus, even in children with ADHD
  • Accelerated recovery from surgery or illness
  • Increased energy level
  • Improved sleep

Just as impressive are the results that we are experiencing as we make this part of our regular practice:
  • Deeper and clearer intuition
  • Increased flow of energy
  • Increased capacity to communicate with the land and its species
  • Increased flow of eros/life force
  • Deepening of friendships
  • Overall increase in sense of happiness

  2. Such a wonderful thing - and love learning more about it. We have practiced mindful walking outside as part of our meditation workshops, and always try and stop and notice what is happening around us in the forests. Wishing you a wonderful week.
