It may be cold and crisp sometimes, but February days in the Limousin are magical. Peaceful, quiet and tranquil. You can walk for hours on the tracks and trails around the forests and Lac de Vassiviere and not see another person. A great way to relax and retreat.
De Tout Coeur Limousin is located in the heart of the Millevaches Natural Park - an area renowned for unspoiled natural countryside; wildlife, clear lakes, rivers, rolling hills and forests. We have lived here for nearly 2 1/2 years and are still finding new places to visit and explore in the beautiful Limousin region. I have always liked walking and hiking in the countryside, but since moving to the Creuse I have discovered a new found love for it. The benefits for mind, body and soul are huge. There is nothing like just getting outside to breath clean fresh air and just focus on where you are and the inspiring natural surroundings. Having willing walking companions is also a bonus - both in the form of Peter my husband, and ageing Cairn terrier, Eric le Chien - who still has boundless energy.
The following photos are a few from our February walks in the local area, La Presqu'ile de Chassagnas - is a 5.7km walking route starting near the shores of Lac de Vassiviere - on the route to Chassagnas. Possibly one of the best views of Lac de Vassiviere as you reach the summit of the hill you can see the Lac on both sides - just stunning. We can see where we live in the distance too! Another favourite is le sentier de rives - over 30km of marked walking/cycling trails around the Lac de Vassiviere. We are just 15 minutes walk away from the shores of the Lac - in between Broussas and Masgrangeas, and can pick up routes in either direction around the perimeter of the Lac. A bit much to do in one day - but there are lots of shorter circuits and routes possible too.
We love sharing our favourite walks and views with friends and guests. Wishing all a great March and look forward to welcoming you soon to the lovely Limousin.

That dock picture is absolutely stunning! I love that rural France is so picturesque. It's also great that you can get in such wonderful outdoor time in the middle of winter! #AllAboutFrance
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. It is lovely to get out in the winter time too. No such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes, or however the saying goes ;) I do regret not buying those waterproof trousers though as it's pouring down with rain today! Thanks so much for stopping by :)
DeleteI think of February as such a dreary month, fed up with winter, not quite spring, so it's nice to see a positive spin on it. Your local lake looks lovely; very peaceful. Thanks for linking to #AllAboutFrance
ReplyDeletethank you Phoebe - it's so lovely at the Lac de Vassiviere - and even out of the main holiday season such a joy to visit with not many people around. A great time to visit in my opinion. I love visiting places out of season too, a very different feel to the summer months, and so much undiscovered beauty
DeleteI've visited France quite a few times but never Limousin - I now realise I've been missing out. I love walking in the countryside, whatever the season, and this looks perfect! #AllaboutFrance
ReplyDeleteIt's a real hidden gem and not as well known as some regions - but just beautiful - we loved it so much we moved here ;) If you have any questions about the Limousin and visiting do get in touch and i'll do my best to help...
