The homemade plum liqueur would also make a lovely homemade seasonal or Christmas gift.
I hope you enjoy my Autumn cocktail - A Limousin Sunset. What's your favourite seasonal aperitif?
Tips: you can of course use a shop bought plum liqueur if you'd like to try this cocktail before the homemade version is ready, but the homemade version is definitely worth the wait.
homemade plum liqueur
Inspired & adapted from Diana Henry's apricot liqueur featured in Salt, Sugar, Smoke (a 'go to' classic for interesting & delicious preserving recipes I can't recommend highly enough)
ingredients:
500g plums - halved & stoned
450g white sugar
750ml dry white wine
300ml vodka
method:
method:
- Add the plums to a pan with the wine and sugar. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat & simmer until the plums are soft (about 10 minutes)
- Take off the heat & add the vodka
- Decant into a sterilized air-tight jar and leave to infuse for 1 week
- After a week strain the liquid through a jelly bag/muslin lined sieve
- Leave to mature for a minimum of 1 month.
Limousin Sunset Cocktail
recipe by: Ema at De Tout Coeur Limousin
for 1 serving:
70ml plum liqueur
35ml whiskey
juice of half an orange
3-4 sage leaves

Handful ice
to serve:
Long twist of orange peel
A few sage leaves
method:
- Tear the sage leaves then add with all the ingredients to a shaker and shake.
- Serve in a tumbler with a few more sage leaves and a long twist of orange peel. Enjoy!
