Elderflower Gin
We've been busy picking some of these beautifully fragrant elderflowers from the garden here at De Tout Coeur Limousin. A delicious way to capture a taste of summer with this elderflower infused gin recipe. This recipe captures the floral perfume of elderflower combined with your favourite gin. Serve over ice with tonic water and twist of orange or lemon. Santé!
ingredients:
1 litre gin
10-15 freshly picked elderflower heads
1 strip orange/lemon peel
2 tbsp sugar
method:
make sure your elderflower heads are cleaned of any stray bugs, remove the flowers from the elderflower stems and place these in a large container/jar with a lid. Add the strip of orange/lemon peel, sugar and gin, cover and leave to infuse for 24 hours. Strain out the flowers with a sieve then strain again through a coffee filter or a couple of layers of kitchen roll in a sieve. Pour into a clean and sterilized bottle and store in a cool, dark place.
